  • Is ELLE for Sale?

    designersocial:

Sources inside Time Inc (InStyle, People, Real Simple) and ELLE’s parent company, Hachette Filipacchi, believe there is some credibility to the rumor that the crown jewel in the French publisher’s crown may be for sale. Particularly after departures of the two top executives there in the past six weeks: Carol Smith (former Senior Vice Pres/ Chief Brand Officer) to Conde Nast and Brent Allen (Vice President, Brand Development) to Hearst.

  • Downtown Girls

So I watched MTV’s new reality show “Downtown Girls” and before I get too far into this let me preface this blog posting with the fact that I actually really liked the show.  The girls on it actually seemed cool and interesting instead of just super catty girls with nothing to do but torment each other.

BUT it also showed one of the main reasons I wouldn’t do reality tv (not that anyone’s asking me to).  You have to watch the stupid things that you do (making out with both your 19 y/o ex and your friend’s ex in the same night) rebroadcast for everyone to see.

Its bad enough to live your mistakes once, but twice? No thanks! : )

I’ll still continue to watch the mistakes and triumphs of the Downtown Girls every Tuesday!

WWD LIGHT: EYE SCOOP LAUNCHES TODAY
If you’re interested in following the fashion community from the inside, but don’t want to pay $200 for a subscription to Women’s Wear Daily, now you don’t have to. Today the brilliant minds at Fairchild bring us EYE SCOOP- a more consumer oriented (and free!) section of WWD.com.
Let me break it down for you- go to “Parties” and see your fave designers on the scene, then find out where you need to be that month. They’ve listed all the cool fashion events for you.. YES this is something we’ll be stealing (or “borrowing”- ahem..) from them on a regular basis. Plus there’s tons of fashion fluff and news from the regular issue, including our own self-interested obsession- “Memo Pad” with news from the Publishing industry.

Oh I just have to say I LOVE this!  I love WWD but yes, I too am not interested in plunking down $200.  Maybe if I was a better (or at least richer) fashionista I would.  But as that’s not the case, I’ll jump on the free web site band wagon.  I guess its the wave of the future, though I have to say, I still love a real magazine.
Can’t wait for the free fashion tidbits!

This cover says it all.  She’s become an absolute fashion icon.  I wouldn’t mind having her life.

REALITY BYTES: I WANT A JOB IN FASHION!

    WEEK 1:

Armed with my lone duffel worth of clothes and accessories, I landed smack-dab in the middle of fashion heaven this week, with Herve Leger and Chanel just a few paces from my brother’s shoebox of an apartment in Soho. My first stop was Pastis in the meatpacking district where even the hostess was dressed to impress. Tatjana spiced up what could have been a boring, seen-before work uniform by rocking an H&M bandage skirt, a vintage silk shirt and a fun pair of low-heeled booties from Shoegasm.

My first interview was Thursday with the sales department of Lucky magazine. Advertising sales assistant Lizzie Meltzer spoke with me about working on the business side of magazines, in terms of why it is difficult to cross over from sales to editorial (and vice versa) as well as what she thinks makes Lucky unique.

The interview was a mix of me learning little tidbits about the mag and Lizzie hearing about my oh-so hopeful aspirations making a big break in fashion. After chatting, we reviewed my portfolio and took a tour of the office, and then I was sent on my way. I’d have to say that the interview definitely went well and I totally clicked with Lizzie – she’s absolutely adorable. That aside, I’m not so sure that this is where I’ll land because there are currently no entry-level positions open at Lucky and I’m looking to book a job pronto. So, the arduous job hunt continues…

I love that someone is doing a blog about breaking into the fashion industry because, let’s be honest, lots of people want to break into the fashion industry and its not easy to do!

I WANT TO LOOK THIS GOOD WHEN I’M 100

“Like any chic 100-year-old, WWD has gone under the knife more than a handful of times.” But today we celebrate the magic this publication has created for the last century, and the impact it has had on the fashion industry. Think about it.. that’s four times as long as most of us have even been alive.

Happy BDay WWD!! Where would we be without you??!

Whawhawhaaa???? W Magazine Wants their 15 minutes too..
Apparently camera crews have been trolling the halls of Stefano Tonchi’s new W magazine offices in an effort to recreate the glorious, behind the scenes documentary of the decade, Vogue’s SEPTEMBER ISSUE. Nada people.. this will never fly. Plus, isn’t the first rule of journalism not to do what’s already been done?

I wonder how MK likes the headline of the magazine being “I wouldn’t wish my upbringing on anyone?”

Its kinda interesting because her upbringing is obviously what has allowed her to have such a broad range of success at such a young age.  Its really given her an incredible platform to express herself and become a style icon.  I do agree with her that she seems much more mature than her 24 years.  She’s really become an American style icon and trend setter.

Vogue Italia October 2009

I love this, it looks very Lady Gaga to me.  I like that Vogue is recognizing that fashion can trickle up and down.
